Wow – the phrase ‘that’s entertainment’ might have been coined for Nadia Sunde who presented a happy program of song, repartee and music that totally charmed the packed house for her first-ever performance at the BJC.
Surrounding herself with a superb band – Michael Fix – guitar, Ross Comerford – keyboards, Andrew Shaw – bass, and Doug Gallacher – drums, along with Nadia’s niece Miranda Licence providing backup vocals.
Nadia talked, joked and sang her way through a varied program that was difficult to define -if definition was required – jazz, pop, rock, country…..even a touch of ‘world music’ perhaps.
The first set was devoted to releasing her latest CD Stoking the Fire produced by Michael Fix and featuring nine of the ten titles all written by Nadia herself, plus the Johnny Kidd classic ‘Shakin’ All Over’.
Here is a lady with a wealth of experience as an ABC radio personality who demonstrates a great love of entertaining people. As an accomplished singer/songwriter and cabaret performer her wry sense of humour and quick wit have added their distinct flavour to her almost poetic lyricism. Her strong and well-rounded voice is well suited to the variety of song styles in her program and, although she has spent many years in radio, her delivery is unpretentious – a totally natural girl-next-door style which does not set out to impress, but simply entertains.
There is no doubt that even more people will be clamouring for seats for any of Nadia’s future performances at the BJC…….. I’ll be there for sure.
