Just for a change at the Brisbane Jazz Club we had an evening of good ‘ole blues (with some rock ‘n’ roll too) performed by Mike Frost and the Icemen, with Mike on guitar including a very cool slide, Mojo Web on Bass, Mark ‘The Colonel’ Doherty on a variety of harmonicas and David Burgess on drums.
Mike and the Colonel exercised their vocal folds to present lots of foot tapping 12bar Blues tunes that had the folks dancing, although it was a relatively quiet night audience wise, only 30 patrons.
It was the band’s first gig at BJC and they put on a great show. The standard of musicianship they brought was high as we have come expect at the club. Some folks were heard to say that it was the best $15 they’d ever spent.
Here’s hoping BJC gets ‘a touch of Frost’ in the future to return to play to a larger crowd.
