On Thursday the 29th August the Charlotte McLean Quartet delivered a great show. With only 44 officially booked we had lots of walk ins with almost 90 patrons enjoying a fabulous night of music.
Although only 22 years old Charlotte displayed a maturity as both a professional performer and musician. Backed by the brilliant Steve Russel on keys, OJ Newcombe on bass and Paul Hudson on drums she impressed both the crowd and the band with her vocal range, and versatility.
Charlotte incorporated standards with some more modern tunes including the Sam Sparro’s 2008 hit Black and Gold with a sultry sound, while the sweetness of her voice was well showcased in a duet with Steve of the 1990’s Cranberries hit ‘Kiss Me’.
Interspersed with inventive takes on classics – a Bossa ‘Nature Boy’ and a beautiful rendition of ‘Misty’ along with her original songs such as ‘Let it Go’-dedicated to her hypnotherapist. Charlotte proved to be an extremely talented and well rounded vocalist and musician, Oh to be so young and talented!! It was a great night and wonderful to see the Brisbane Jazz Club supporting up and coming Jazz greats of the future!! L McK
