Sunday brunch at the BJC is a different experience, and I must confess that I love it.  Not a time normally associated with jazz, the vibe is more mellow.   The day stretches out before you.  The view from the deck is of sunlit river reflecting buildings rather than night lights.

Paula Girvan Quintet

The G20 Conference – while making Brisbane’s star shine brightly – fogged over those of many entertainment venues with Brisbanites seemingly avoiding trips to the City.
Thus the bookings for all shows this week were considerably down, despite the tremendous quality of the acts booked to attract G20 visitors.

Rafael Karlen – The Sweetness of Things Half-remembered..

Amid the G20 weird and eerie silence that fell over Brisbane’s inner city entertainment venues, a very respectable crowd of 97 braved road blockages and potential protest marches for Rafael’s Karlen’s gig.

Rafael is one of Brisbane’s great saxophonists and is an amazing and prolific composer.
