One of the most enduring bands which plays regularly at BJC and consistently delivers a fine performance is lead by the very affable and totally sincere, Mark Pradella. His enthusiasm and devotion to music are reflected in his multi-instrumental playing. He is equally at home on clarinet, soprano, alto or tenor sax, EWI (electronic sax) or even penny whistle !
Surrounded, as always, by a coterie of equally talented musicians in Sam Pace—keys and vocals, Fulvio Granata—bass, Michael Gillespie – guitar and David Cotgreave—drums, Mark performed a choice selection of his favourite numbers. The ‘cream on the cake’ was provided by Clancy Cullen on vocals.
One or two highlights from the first set were a bossa version of Close Your Eyes featuring Clancy and the EWI version of Spain from Mark.
The second set revealed an outstanding version of In the Wee Small Hours from Clancy, and a terrific rendition of Caravanfrom Mark and the band.
With Mark’s ‘Mamma’ in attendance, and Clancy having travelled up from Melbourne for the gig, it was a rare and special occasion for Mark personally.
