Last year, trumpeter Clint Allen visited Europe on a Churchill Fellowship,studying, performing and recording with some extraordinary artists such as Martin Fondse, Eric Aubier, Ruud Breuls and the Zapp String Quartet. He brings some of this incredible music back to Australia with a set of serene music for trumpet, piano and strings. The Zappa Big Band returns to the stage for a very rare appearance, as a tribute to their late lead alto saxophonist, Scott Griffiths. A very special night – not to be missed……..

Bec Whitehead, a 21 year old soul singer from the Gold Coast has drawn attention from the media and Gold Coast audiences, who have captured a taste of her soulful voice.

Jesse Green is one of Bec’s closest friends, who she has known since she started her professional career. Jesse is a phenomenal saxophone player, currently 20 years old… You must hear this guy blow!

David Galea brings his quintet to the BJC to release his new recording Wood and Wire,joined by James Whiting – vibes, Cleon Barraclough – piano (Soundscapes Trio), Trent Bryson-Dean – drums (TBD3) and Joshua Hatcher – saxophone (Josh Hatcher quartet).

Wood and Wire was recorded by Brett Cheney in the Nickson room at the UQ under the direction of Peter Freeman.

These inventive jazz instrumentalists return to the BJC along with the magnificent voice of Lauren Lucille. Using the voice as an instrument, Brisbane jazz pianist and composer Cleon Barraclough and Lauren have composed a special set of contemporary works. Other treats includes tunes from Lauren’s sumptuous album Hidden Here, along with some of the trio’s adventurous works from their Archi-textures show.
