This fab 5 piece band entertained the audience with a superb array of Brazilian music. It was easy to see that these musicians were efficionados of the wonderful Latin rhythms. The evening was filled with toe tapping sambas, bossa nova and Brazilian grove. It was lovely to here these Brazilian songs sung in the beautiful Portuguese language by Lucia who is a native of Brazil.
The songs were interspersed with interesting tidbits of explanation by Lucia. I haven’t heard Mas Que Nada sung so well since I first heard it by Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66 (the name gives away how long ago that was).
It’s a shame the audience wasn’t larger to experience this genuine Brazilian music.
Mauricio Hosi – guitar, Lucia Hodge – vocals, Claudio Climaco – drums, Oj Newcombe – bass, Louise Denson – piano
