The first half of the evening was dedicated to the CD launch and enjoyed by an appreciative audience who loved every minute of Alan and Pete’s renditions of some amazing tracks including Mac the Knife, Spinning Wheel, I Thought about You, Save Your Love for Me – with an amazing solo by Adam Connelly on sax…

Elly Hoyt Band Sat June 27th, 2015

With Elly at the mike, Dave Spicer on piano, Bob Schulz on flugelhorn, AJ Hall on bass and Sacha Kloostra on drums, this talented combo held a full-house audience spellbound through two sets of classics, lesser known gems and self-penned masterpieces.
This was an outstanding evening of entertainment, delivered with poise, precision, personality, power and passion.

Special guest William Barton contributed his unique skills with didgeridoo, guitar and vocals, for one performance in each set. His duet with Elly on the title…

Mark Pradella Band – Friday 5 June 2015

One of the most enduring bands which plays regularly at BJC and consistently delivers a fine performance is lead by the very affable and totally sincere, Mark Pradella. His enthusiasm and devotion to music are reflected in his multi-instrumental playing. He is equally at home on clarinet, soprano, alto or tenor sax, EWI (electronic sax) or even penny whistle !
Surrounded, as always, by a coterie of equally talented musicians in Sam Pace—keys and vocals, Fulvio Granata—bass, Michael Gillespie  – guitar…

David Bentley Trio + Will Barton 21/6/15

There is never a bad night at BJC. But some nights are just so magical. The David Bentley Trio gig on Sunday was one such night.
The David Bentley Trio performs regularly and is well loved at the Club. David on keys and vocals, Andrew Shaw bass and Kerry Jacobson are seasoned jazz and blues musicians who produce deep and intuitive synergies in their music together.

Playing a set of originals, New Orleans style shuffles and funk held together by David’s quirky…

Robyn Brown & Libor Smoldas (Prague) 13 March 2015

Friday the 13th was certainly a lucky day for patrons of the BJC. A fabulous night featuring the dulcet and smooth as velvet vocals of Robyn Brown and the international guitarist and favourite of the BJC Libor Smoldas (Prague). Backed by a superb line up of OJ Newcomb on bass, Jason Bray on drums and Marnix Van Bruggen on piano this was a slick night of Jazz, Blues and Gospel launching their “Touch of Blue Tour”.
Favourites of the night include…

Jazzarach – Saturday 18 April 2015

Saturday 18th of April saw a conglomeration of the closest thing we have to Brisbane Jazz Music Royalty, presenting a showcase of Burt Bacharach tunes – the evening appropriately called –‘Jazzarach’!
Pitch perfect vocals where presented by Irene Bartlett, Francesca De Valance, Rachel Head while the musicians were favourites, Dave Spicer on keys, Peter Walters on Bass and Lachlan Hawkins on drums. All of this illustrious group are of course lecturers at the Queensland Conservatory of Music in their respected fields with exception of Lachlan who…

Swing Central Sunday April 19th, 2015

Close your eyes in the presence of Swing Central and you are with Count Basie and Frank Sinatra at the Sands, or at a bar in Las Vegas enjoying a drink and a song with a warm and toasted Dean Martin.
On Sunday night at the Brisbane Jazz Club, the band was purring, Brad Leaver was schmoozing at his best, and the atmosphere was electric. The crowd loved it and most succumbed to the foot-tapping urge to get up and dance.
On…

The Tom Vincent Trio – Sat March 28th, 2015

Some artists take the stage at the Brisbane Jazz Club, and instantly own the place; clearly and cleanly resonating with the fibre of this old boat shed and the jazz-loving souls of its enthusiastic and appreciative patrons.
So it was for the cool, cool, coooool Tom Vincent Trio, on the last night of their latest tour of Australia.
Leigh Barker on double bass, Alf Jackson on drums and Tom Vincent on piano, enjoy playing together. Their smiling camaraderie was a key element…

Ingrid James & Louise Denson’s Wild Silk Strings Project – 21 March 2015

Even before the finger clicking count-in, even before one note is played, you just have to look at the familiar faces of the musical elite on stage to know that you are in for a world-class jazz performance.
While Ingrid James and Louise Denson have partnered many shows together – and this was the latest in their Wild Silk series – they don’t just get stuck into the groove of finding a winning formula and trading on it until it has lost its impact…
