‘EMO’ pride themselves on featuring original compositions by local musicians, and on this night they presented first-time material from new composers, as well as tunes from tried and true, regular…

Diamonds of Swing – Sat 23 Jan 2016

Diamonds of Swing and their second sell out show at BJC played to a very receptive and enthusiastic audience.
Having known the Diamonds, Jan Lennard and Di Clark, for the past few years as stalwarts of Jazz Singers Jam Nights, it was very gratifying to see that they have now co-operated on producing a vibrant show to showcase their voices and stage personnas.
They gave this show a theme and a storyline which focussed on the progression of female jazz singers over the years, so their…

Swing Central Sunday April 19th, 2015

Close your eyes in the presence of Swing Central and you are with Count Basie and Frank Sinatra at the Sands, or at a bar in Las Vegas enjoying a drink and a song with a warm and toasted Dean Martin.
On Sunday night at the Brisbane Jazz Club, the band was purring, Brad Leaver was schmoozing at his best, and the atmosphere was electric. The crowd loved it and most succumbed to the foot-tapping urge to get up and dance.
On…

So it was for the cool, cool, coooool Tom Vincent Trio, on the last night of their latest tour of Australia.
Leigh Barker on double bass, Alf Jackson on drums and Tom Vincent on piano, enjoy playing together. Their smiling camaraderie was a key element…

John Morrison, Jacki Cooper and George Golla – 30 August 2013

Just seeing the names on the bill was enough for most people to expect a great show from John Morrison and Jacki Cooper – well-known at the Club for their patronage and mentoring of our Brisbane Big Band Festival. Seeing and hearing them perform in their own right without a 20-piece big band behind them was a new and highly entertaining experience. The company of the legendary jazz guitarist George Golla, and Brisbane’s own Helen Russell on bass, really put the icing on the…

Ultrafox & Feel the Manounche Sunday 30/11/14

What a finale for the last night of Oz Manouche 2014!!
Kicking the night off in style was a great set by Ultrafox from Melbourne. Featuring two guitars, double bass and clarinet, the band seamlessly maintained the high standard that had been established over the previous 3 days of the festival. Peter Baylor, who formed Ultrafox in 2008, led the way with his crisp and cruisy guitar work and a sweet vocal style that wa…s reminiscent of the late Aussie great…
