The All Stars Cooperative Band, with the Mon Che Vocal Quartet- Sunday July 24th, 2016

This was a fascinating Sunday night at the Brisbane Jazz Club.
Led by an ever-smiling Bob Rose, the 18-piece All Stars Cooperative Band delivered three wide-ranging sets of imaginative and attention-holding arrangements, in a welcome follow up to their appearance at the BJC’s recent Big Band Festival.
They brought their powerful big-band vibe to classics such as ‘A Night In Tunisia’, ‘Memphis Blues’, Benny Goodman’s ‘Jersey Bounce’ and ‘Stompin’ At The Savoy’, and their closing number, the Dixieland march, ‘South Rampart Street…

Enthusiastic Musician’s Orchestra – Thur 10 Dec 2015.

20-piece band,‘EMO’, the Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra, are an enormously massive organisation and an exciting magical outfit of elite musical operatives.
Their superb big band sound, skillfully guided by Musical Director, Josh Hatcher, and rounded out by vocals from Kayleigh Pincott and Charlotte McLean, kept the BJC audience spellbound for the entire night.
‘EMO’ pride themselves on featuring original compositions by local musicians, and on this night they presented first-time material from new composers, as well as tunes from tried and true, regular…

Swing Central Sunday April 19th, 2015

Close your eyes in the presence of Swing Central and you are with Count Basie and Frank Sinatra at the Sands, or at a bar in Las Vegas enjoying a drink and a song with a warm and toasted Dean Martin.

On…

Barksdale Brass – 24 Jan 2014

The “Joint was Jumping” again on Sunday night.
A capacity crowd added to the atmosphere and we enjoyed some great music from not one but two good bands. Barksdale Brass, lead by Danny Peel, is made up of mainly young, energetic musicians. Hence we got a set of high energy, rather loud “brass band” jazz. A good band we should have again. EMO (Enthusiastic Musicians Orchestra) then played two sets.
Tonight saw the return of Burke Turner to lead the orchestra.  I think this orchestra…

John Morrison, Jacki Cooper and George Golla – 30 August 2013

Just seeing the names on the bill was enough for most people to expect a great show from John Morrison and Jacki Cooper – well-known at the Club for their patronage and mentoring of our Brisbane Big Band Festival. Seeing and hearing them perform in their own right without a 20-piece big band behind them was a new and highly entertaining experience. The company of the legendary jazz guitarist George Golla, and Brisbane’s own Helen Russell on bass, really put the icing on the…
