This was the debut performance at the BJC for Atienne, a very accomplished young guitarist, who was supported by of some of Brisbane’s finest musicians. The guys played a superb variety of contemporary jazz from the likes of such composers as Wes Montgomery, George Benson and John Scofield.
Throughout the sets there were some brilliant solos from all the players. Particularly impressive was when sax and guitar combined to play the melody in unison.
The selection of tunes was excellent. They were mostly lesser known compositions, not the usual tried and true and they made for a very enjoyable evening of high quality instrumental jazz that could stand up anywhere, even more famous jazz venues than BJC (if that’s possible).
Atienne Bakker-Szumer on Guitar, John Reeves on Piano, Aaron Jansz on Drums, John Felstead on Sax, Nick Quigley on Bass.
