Andrew Patty Quartet at Brisbane Jazz Club – Joanna Funk

The Andrew Patty Quartet at the Brisbane Jazz Club (Dec 10 2016) celebrated family, friends and great songs. Edgy, unpredictable jazz stayed at home, since the band knew what would make us feel good and there was no need to reinvent the wheel.
BJC was a full house, its audience ensconced in familiarity: swinging standards “rat pack” style, and beautiful songbook ballads.

These guys are fun! Not only from a professional musician point of view, but as entertainers. Their music was superb- a great mix of standards like Cheek to Cheek and Putting on the Ritz to upbeat swinging renditions of 60’s classic rock tunes like Twist and Shout and All Shook Up. The evening performance started with a 25 minute- long, slow tempo original piece  “Hymn of the Desert People” which had the small but appreciative audience spellbound in an odyssey through the Sahara.
